Privacy policy

Short, because there is very little to describe.

What we collect

Nothing. The app has no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising identifiers and no third-party SDKs of any kind. It reports nothing to us about you or your use of it.

One exception applies while the app is in beta — see below.

While the beta is running

Privascan is currently distributed through Apple’s TestFlight, and that changes the answer above for as long as you are a beta tester.

Apple states that when you test a beta app, your crash logs and usage information are automatically collected by Apple and shared with the developer, and that you cannot opt out. If you send feedback through TestFlight, that is shared with us too and may identify you.

Two things are worth separating:

• The app still contains no analytics, no crash reporter and no networking code. It sends nothing itself.
• The TestFlight platform does collect beta diagnostics, and that is Apple’s mechanism, not ours.

Because testers join through a public link, Apple does not show us tester names or email addresses. TestFlight collection stops applying to you when you stop running a beta build — shipping on the App Store does not by itself end it for someone still on TestFlight.

Where your documents live

On your iPhone, in the app’s own storage. Scanning, edge detection, OCR, PDF assembly and encryption all run locally on the device. Your documents are never sent to us — we operate no server that could receive them.

When a document leaves your device

Two ways, and we want to be precise about both.

When you export or share it. You pick the destination, and from that moment the file is governed by that service’s terms, not ours.

When iOS backs up your iPhone. Privascan stores your scans in the app’s own storage, which iOS treats like any other app’s data: if you use iCloud Backup or back up to a computer, your scans are included. Those backups belong to you and go to Apple, never to us — we cannot see, retrieve or delete them, and deleting a scan in Privascan does not remove it from a backup already taken. Without Apple’s Advanced Data Protection, Apple holds the keys to an iCloud backup. You can exclude Privascan from iCloud backups in iOS Settings, under your iCloud backup options, or delete the backup itself there.

Beyond those two, your documents stay put. Two further channels carry non-document data and are described below: Apple’s purchase system, and, during the beta, TestFlight.

Permissions

• Camera — to capture pages. Used only while you are scanning.
• Photo library — only if you import an existing photo, and only the images you pick.

Both can be refused or revoked in iOS Settings; the rest of the app keeps working.

The Pro purchase

Handled entirely by Apple’s in-app purchase system. Apple processes the payment; we never see your payment details or your identity. The app only checks whether the unlock is owned.

Children

Privascan collects no personal data from anyone, of any age.

Deleting your data

Delete a scan in the app, or delete the app. Everything Privascan stores is local, so deleting it is enough on our side — there is nothing for us to erase. Anything you already exported or shared lives wherever you sent it, and has to be deleted there.

If you take part in the research study

If you email about the pre-launch study, I hold your message and any notes from the session in order to run it. Specifically:

• What: your email address, what you tell me, and my notes.
• Why: to arrange and conduct the session, and to decide what to build. That is a legitimate interest in improving the product, and you can object at any time.
• How long: until the study is finished, then deleted within six months.
• Shared with: nobody.
• Your rights: you can ask for a copy, a correction, or deletion at any time, by replying to the same address. If you are in the EU or UK you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Sessions are not recorded unless you agree to it first.
